Floor Decorations

One interetsting role of job as Sub Dean at Fenner is that as one of the two judges for the floor decorating competition. This year the standard was incredbly high here are the photos of the best floor decorating Fenner had to offer.

North 6 decorates egyptian style. These guys did well, they dressed a first year up as a mummy and bribed uswith chocolate.

South 2 struck a chord in my heart by using Futurama as a theme. Bender and Fry are constantly being stolen. This floor would have won except they committed a cardinal sin of obstructing the emergency phone.

When in Rome...South 9 took on this motto and went Roman on us. This floor was exellently decorated and also nearly won. However their decortions stopped at the Lift Foyer.

South 5 took out a very respectable third place. They decoarted as a time machine in order to incorporate all eras. While the decoarions were quite minimalist there were witty comments around the entire floor. I was ready to give this floor first prize the second I saw it.

Second Place went to North 8. They themed a 1920's gangster era. Like South 5 the decorations were minimalist, but the black, white, red and blue colour scheme was senstaional. The whole floor was decorated and they were equal placed for first. However as a judge we had to make a decision. Finally we decided that as the artwork was mostly done by one person and not a floor effort it should be relegated.

First place was won by First North. They themed their floor with superheros. My fellow judge fell in love immediately (he tried to steal their posters). The design was simple, cheap and clever. The foyer (pictured) wasn't too over bearing, a phantom comic had been cut up with one page on every door so you could follow the story, and 'framed printouts' (you can see Batman and Wonder Woman in the picture) were put up around the floor. Heros included Tintin and Mario - so I was sold early too! Congrats North 1 and enjoy you extra budget for 2008.

Back when you were a boy, Phil, did you decorate your floor? If you did, what theme did you select?

When I was a boy I had a muder mystery theme, and all floor members were suspect.
The following year I had a tribute floor. Everyone picked a few things they liked and decorated their doorway appropriately.
